Left for several days under monsoon rains, later dried for seven weeks by monsoon winds and carefully roasted, the beans reveal their intense character, featuring dark chocolate notes.

The history of MONSOONED MALABAR dates back to the nineteenth century when green coffee beans were transported from India to Europe in wooden ships. During the long journeys, the beans would get moistened by the damp and rainy maritime climate, and the strong monsoon winds would dry them – causing the beans to swell significantly, acquire a light golden hue, and a unique rich taste. Soon, a corresponding quality standard emerged, which quickly spread across Europe. The name MONSOONED MALABAR derives from the method of production: beans left exposed to monsoon (Monsoon) winds on Malabar beach in Karnataka and Kerala, which have protected status (under India's Geographical Indications of Goods Act).
