Our friends and family have a significant impact on who we are today and who we will be in the future. However, our family, especially our mother, probably has the greatest influence. She was there when we came into this world, and she is still by our side now. It doesn't matter if she lives a hundred or thousands of kilometers away, she has always been and will always be by our side, wherever we are – that is, in our hearts.
Among all the annual celebrations, there is a day each year when we can remember and thank our dear mothers. This is Mother's Day, celebrated in Lithuania on the first Sunday of May. Often too busy with daily tasks, we forget the person who has done more good for us in life than anyone else.
A little history
There is a lot of debate about the origin of this day. One story says that Mother's Day originated in the 20th century in America. It was first celebrated in 1908 when American Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother. This set a day to honor mothers – the person who has done more for us than anyone else.
This day quickly spread and within a few years became commercial, as major companies began selling Mother's Day cards. The founder of this day, Anna Jarvis, was very angry about this and tried various ways to remove Mother's Day from the calendar. As we can see, she did not succeed, and this day is celebrated almost worldwide.
How is Mother's Day celebrated?
On Mother's Day, people usually greet their mothers, send them gifts, or make sure to visit them on that day. The most common Mother's Day gifts are flowers, chocolate, sweets, clothes, jewelry, and various pleasant outings, such as beauty or spa treatments.
